Linux… The Market Is On A Move.
As you know Microsoft is the dominating market, but Linux has been getting bigger and bigger. Recently Linux has more then 2% of the computer market. This is the first time we have ever seen this. Personally I believe this Is happening because, of all of the ultra portables or more commonly known as net books. If you take a look at any retailer’s website I guaranty you will see two options to configure with. One being windows XP and the other being with Linux.
I am interested in seeing how windows 7 will impact the market. Linux has been taking the net book market because, vista was not made to run in that involvement. I hope to see windows 7 make the changes needed to really support the ultra portables that are becoming more and more popular.
As a Linux user I will be the first to say it’s not perfect. Being I am a little more then a basic user work ok without a GUI in some aspects, as well as I don’t mind jumping through some hoops to install software. What about an average user, who has used a mac or pc
there whole life? Are they will to relearneverything they know? Once Linux has adaptedto fit the average users needed to will take off. ubunto is on it’s way. Aalready one of themost popular distros, has the potential to take a huge chunk of the market. (all of my info came from the following site http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php)

My New Diy Progect/Goal
I found an article while I was on Digg.com that got my attention. Build a diy tough screen. I can do it I just need to find the funding. easier said then done. anyone who wants to check it out go to http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/maximum_pc_builds_a_multitouch_surface_computer
on MaximumPC they first have an article on what they did, then they have a video, and after that step by step instructions. I think it’s awesome that they are some willing to release the plans right on the Internet. instead of showing us and leaving it at that. there not bad plans ether. Ya there are more articles that have been doing this for along time but this is the first that really jumped out at me. if you are into diy stuff give me an email at ben at technestreport.com I’m always looking for new ideals. also keep an eye out for a new podcast. eventually i will have a diy podcast, and possably a vidcast farther down the road.

Syncing my iPhone with two computers
Have you ever wished you could sync with your home and your office? I found that if you go into your documents, go to my music and copy your iTunes folder to a portable drive. Replace the iTunes folder on your other computer and your good. One problem I have found is in the apps if you don’t have all of your apps on both computers or it delete the ones you don’t have also any unsigned apps they will be deleted.

I recently got my windows m
achine to run again. I put windows 7 on there to make it complete. I have an application to use one keyboard for my mac and PC (still working on my Linux boxes). I got my freenas server working again and working on getting all of my software back on. eventually I want to just get a mac pro a. because I’m due for an upgrade and b. so much less problems. once I get a mac pro or even just a mac book pro i am going to turn them all into different types of servers, but for now i will stick with what I have. hopefully I can get back down on my bigger desk soon so I can start using my synthesizer and mixer again. one day it will be perfect
Bugs In My Phone Starting To Show
For a while I have Been talking about how the jailbreak makes the iPhone so much better. It’s about time I talk about the negitives. On Technest Report I talked about my iPhone Being hacked and this is because I failed to turn off ssh when I was on a public wifi. Most users don’t know that ssh is even there. One thing you can do to prevent it is, change your root password. This was great for about 20 minutes then my iPhone went to the lock screen and everytime I unlocked it it would relock. So I restored it and put the jailbreak back on it worked great still does. One thing I have noticed is after about 2 weeks it slows down allot. Whitch means more restarting and more apps crash. Don’t get me wrong I love the jailbreak and everything about it, but for the basic user I would say just don’t do it. It’s easy to get your iPhone running at full speed again but for now avoid it. Hold out for 3.0 and if it doesn’t have everything that you need go for it, but make sure to uninstall ssh for your iPhone’s safety. I am going to keep my phone jailbroken and if it gets really bad then I will take it off. Mainly because I need to be able to run my own code and for the comand line or console.
